Finding peace

PEACE- “It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in you heart.” (unknown)

Katie journal entry
Surrender Box (Image: an excerpt from my journal)
February 2009 is coming to an end and the graduate students of Cohort 8 are officially in the second half of their residency at the Environmental Learning Center. With six months to go before heading off to Bellingham for the final push, we are moving full steam ahead in this experiential learning process.
There is noise, hardships, and uncertainty about how things will turn out. However, I  find peace in all of this and I am thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the North Cascades Institute and the opportunity to prepare for the future that awaits us all.
It is clear to many in the learning center community that my solitude is extremely valuable to me. Whether I am listening to music, reading the Bible, or exploring the surrounding forests, it is through this that clarity and meaning find their way to me.
One particular form of finding meaning came via email. Everyday I read my DailyOm and I am reminded to take time to breath; sometimes easy to forget in my nonstop schedule. So without further ado, I would like to share with those of you reading my first blog entry how in times of chaos, sometimes the answer is to just surrender….
I encourage anyone who is fighting to keep motivated as this winter season slowly dwindles to make a Surrender Box. It may be just the thing you are looking for!

Beautiful entry Sissy! I am so thankful you turned me on to DailyOM. I look forward to reading it everyday and sometimes can’t believe how relative it is to the situations life throws at me. I have also forwarded it to several friends whom I think will benefit from the message. Love and Miss You, FAB xo
