Photos from SnowSchool, our winter field science program offered in partnership with the Mt. Baker Ski Area and Northwest Avalanche Center. Students study the influence of snowpack in their everyday lives over the course of two sessions – one in the classroom and one at Mt. Baker Ski Area.

In winter quarter, graduates in the M.Ed. residency program take a course in environmental education curriculum design. As a final project, grads create their own curriculum and present a lesson of their choosing to the cohort. This week, presentations began and grads found themselves testing the pH and dissolved oxygen levels of Diablo Lake for curriculums designed around field science inquiry and watershed quality.

After a beautiful stretch of sunshine, winter returned on Friday, dumping over a foot of snow in just 24 hours at the North Cascades Institute Environmental Learning Center. It continued to snow over the weekend and weather forecasts show no end until at least Wednesday.

All this new snow didn’t stop grad student, Jihan Grettenberg, from getting in her daily run. Unfortunately, it did slow things up for those trying to leave our parking lot!
