Turn phone for all the snowy magic! Oh and also, H Turn phone for all the snowy magic! Oh and also, Highway 20 is officially closed for the season! ⁣

❄️🚗 Due to high avalanche concern and current conditions, @wsdot closed the highway yesterday Thursday, December 4.

❄️🚗 The closure is between the Ross Dam trailhead at milepost 134 and Silver Star gate at milepost 171. Recreation use of the pass is still open, but please be aware of avalanche hazards before heading out and #RecreateResponsibly.

❄️🚗 We only had one guesser this year, so they automatically win the best guess contest. With a guess of 11/10 from @brandy___marie, you win the illustrious title of being best guesser along with winning the admiration and respect that comes with that title. 👏🏆👏🥇👏🏅

❄️🚗 The road will reopen in Spring. Until then, we wait…

"There’s so much that my time in the wilderness ha "There’s so much that my time in the wilderness has taught and continues to teach me. It’s been an integral part of me finding a way through life as an openly gay man and has helped me overcome so many challenges. I want to share that with other queer people in hopes of showing them a way of life that’s given so many people throughout history a sense of meaning and connection." - Lance Garland

Happy #WildlifeWednesday! This is an Osprey, you c Happy #WildlifeWednesday! This is an Osprey, you can tell it’s an Osprey because of the way it is. Osprey's are pretty neat.

🦅 Osprey's like to live near open water with an abundant supply of fish where they can dive three feet under water to hunt. They are brown above and white below, and overall they are whiter than most raptors. The head is white with a broad brown stripe through the eye.

🦅 The Osprey is the only hawk in North America that eats almost exclusively live fish. Fresh and saltwater fish account for 99% of an Osprey's diet.

🦅 Ospreys have a fun adaptation, which is unusual among hawks, they have a reversible outer toe that allows them to grasp with two toes in front and two behind. They also have barbed pads on the soles of the their feet to help them grip slippery fish. When flying with prey, an Osprey lines up its catch head first for less wind resistance.

🦅 Ospreys are known for their long migrations and may log more than 160,000 migration miles during their 15-to-20-year lifetime.

🦅 Osprey's are generally monogamous and readily build their large nests on man-made structures like telephone poles, channel markers, and specially designed platforms. Nests can be used for decades, with different pairs adding to them over time.
